Day 3 – Near Failure.

This is how I started feeling not long ago. It’s Day 3 of NaNoWriMo, and I’m sitting at a total of 8,287 words – only an inch over 1,000 for today’s total. Depressing. It took me two hours to simply write something like 800 words. Luckily, I’m still ahead of the suggested daily goal by like 3K or so…

Nothing about the writing process came smoothly today. I’ve an entirely new character who randomly popped up, that I’ve decided no to totally destroy. He may be cut out at a later date, but for now, he’s staying. I’m not sure why he appeared, but he forced his way into a scene that also did not exist in my outline. At this point, really, the outline is just like the lines in a coloring book – intended to make the picture recognizable but you can use any color you want in there.

So it’s late and that might not be a good analogy. So what? Refer back to the above picture and remember, that’s how I feel.

Wish me better luck for tomorrow’s writing! Hopefully, I can pull ahead again. I’m aiming to break 10K tomorrow, but let’s not hold me to it unless I actually pull it off, k? Yeah, sounds good to me. Now it is time for me to go put this hevy head to bed.

Just remember…. This is a marathon, not a sprint. As long as you keep moving forward each day, it means you are closer then you were yesterday. I know you can do it. You’ve done it before and will do it many times more over your life. You are really very lucky, most people go their whole life wonder where they are going.
