Boxer Hockey – One Weird Ass Comic
Guys in underwear, chucking frogs down a soccer field, and whacking each other with bats? What the hell is going on with this web-comic? I do not understand the sport or the person who invented it for this comic, Boxer Hockey. But I understand the insanity and total randomness that is involved and I can appreciate that.
I found myself laughing out loud numerous times as I read through this comic. I was sitting in my office like an idiot, making ridiculous hissing, sputtering sounds as I was trying to smother my unmanageable fit of giggles.
There is a lot of “inappropriate” or perhaps I should call it “political incorrectness” to be found in this comic. I laughed too hard at some of this. The inappropriate has a completely appropriate place here.
These characters are bizarre but the dialogue is so comical that I can’t get enough of it. And not just the dialogue, some of the facial expressions – most notably of Rittz – were hysterical, especially when coupled with the situational set-up.
I’ve been reading more and more web-comics lately, partly because I love them, and partly because I’m back to practicing my own drawing and I like to expose myself to a lot of various styles. And even if a story is hilarious and the writing is superb, I’m always a bit sad to see it accompanied by poor or just plain bad artwork.
But that’s just not the case here. The art here is actually done in a style I really like – it’s clean and simple, but it still carries a lot of character. I may say that about a lot of comics, but I really do believe that a clean, simple style is best. I am not fond of comics with so many dirty sketchy marks that you can’t tell what’s going on in a crowded or busy panel.
This is a pretty short comic right now, and I didn’t see any dates, so I’m only assuming it’s still being updated. But even if it’s not, you have to give it a read. It’s so freaking hilarious… And if you disagree, well, PALOOHEY on you. Whatever that means…
